About Us

MEET THE DIRECTOR: Theison Anderson

My passion for sports began when I was very young. I was fortunate to have coaches who invested in me, teaching me the fundamentals and fostering a love for the game. Becoming a coach myself has felt like a natural progression from those early experiences. This journey began at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), where I spent four years, including two as a graduate assistant coach. A highlight of my time there was being part of the team that achieved a National Runner-Up finish in 2019, a testament to our collective hard work and dedication.

Following my tenure at UNK, I took on the role of head men's volleyball coach at Morningside College, where I also served as an assistant consultant for the women's program. This experience broadened my coaching perspective and allowed me to work with a diverse group of athletes.

In addition to college coaching, I served as the head coach at Kearney High School for three years, creating a positive and competitive environment for young players. My involvement in club volleyball spans over five years, where I have had the pleasure of coaching athletes in a more competitive setting.

Currently, I am the club director for Kearney Volleyball Club, where I continue to mentor and inspire young athletes. My experiences across high school, collegiate, and club levels have strengthened my commitment to the sport and to the development of players both on and off the court.

Throughout my career, I've been driven by a desire to instill a love for volleyball in my athletes, helping them reach their full potential and pursue their athletic dreams. It's been a rewarding journey, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the volleyball community.

About Us

About the Kearney Volleyball Club:

We welcome players from area schools to tryout for positions on our teams. We will do our best to put the most competitive group of players on each team. We  have 8-10 players on a team and hope to have two teams at each level. Our coaches are an excellent combination of Kearney High Volleyball staff, former high school coaches, and UNK players, many of whom have coached for other clubs as well. In addition to playing club in the off-season, we also encourage athletes to be members of their high school winter and spring sports teams  and we will do our best to work around players' school schedules when selecting the tournaments and practice times.

We expect support from our parents and with this comes an understanding that our practices are closed to all fans and parents. Only our coaching staff and players are allowed at practices.  We ask that parents release their kids to our coaches and our club program. The tournaments are coming, and that’s when parents and fans can see our athletes. If parents come from out of town and don’t have some shopping to do, they can come in and sit in our commons/cafeteria area.

FREQUENTLY ASKED Q & A

Q: What is the cost of KVC?

A: Ages 10-13 is $500.

    Ages 14-17 is $600.

This covers team fees, uniforms, coaches pay, facility/practice fees, 6 tournaments.

14-17 teams have an increased cost because tournament entry fees for this age are typically higher.

*A fundraiser may be available to help off set costs*

Q: When are practices?

A: Right now, practices will be Sunday and Wednesday evenings. Practices will typically last for an hour and half. These are subject to change as gym space availability changes.

Q: Where are practices?

A: Kearney High School

Q: When/ Where are tournaments?

A: These can vary greatly. Each coach selects the 5-6 tournaments they wish to attend based on availability. Younger teams will typically stick to more local tournaments (Kearney, Grand Island, Hastings). Older more competitive teams will have a combination of local and high level tournaments in areas like Lincoln and Omaha.

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: No refunds will be given after the first practice.

The only exception being if there is an injury. If the injury occurs before February 15th, and the athlete can not participate in the rest of the season, a 50% refund will be given.

Q: What is your top team?

A: Our teams go in order from Blue, Black, White.

Blue being the top team.

Parent Expectations and Guidelines

As parents, you play a crucial role in your child’s athletic development and the overall success of the club volleyball program. To foster a positive and supportive environment, we ask all parents to adhere to the following expectations:

1. Support Your Athlete

  • Encourage effort and attitude: Celebrate hard work, improvement, and sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome.
  • Avoid over-coaching: Trust the coaches to teach and guide your child in volleyball skills and strategy.
  • Promote resilience: Help your child learn from challenges and losses as part of their growth.

2. Respect the Coaches and Staff

  • Trust the process: Coaches make decisions based on the best interest of the team and individual player development.
  • Communicate appropriately: Use designated times and methods to address concerns (e.g., email, scheduled meetings), not during or immediately after matches or practices. Please seek to UNDERSTAND, before you accuse or send heated messages.
  • Model good behavior: Show respect for all club staff by avoiding negative comments or gossip.

3. Exhibit Good Sportsmanship

  • Cheer respectfully: Be positive and encouraging, not critical of players, coaches, or officials.
  • Respect referees: Avoid arguing calls or displaying frustration during games.
  • Support all players: Recognize and cheer for the successes of the entire team, not just your child.

4. Honor the Club’s Policies

  • Punctuality: Ensure your child arrives on time for practices, tournaments, and team events.
  • Financial commitment: Stay current with payments and communicate promptly if issues arise.

5. Promote a Healthy Balance

  • Encourage rest: Ensure your child has adequate time to recover and balance other aspects of their life, including school and family.
  • Focus on enjoyment: Help your child stay passionate about volleyball without excessive pressure or expectations.

6. Represent the Club with Pride

  • Be a role model: Behave in a way that reflects positively on the club during tournaments, events, and online.
  • Build community: Foster positive relationships with other parents, athletes, and staff to create a supportive environment.

Consequences for Failing to Meet Expectations

Parents who do not follow these guidelines may face consequences such as:

  • A conversation with the club director or coaching staff.
  • Restricted access to practices or tournaments.
  • Removal from the program.

*Director reserves the right to remove athletes from participation.

*Director reserves the right to revoke an invitation to participate.
